Printing Pattern Repeats with STENCILS

Take the time to go through the entire course before beginning to work.

In person or ZOOM instruction is included with the purchase of an online class or a yearly membership.

I offer targeted workshops for groups of 3-5 students. Each must be enrolled in a course. Give me a call or an email if you would like to bring a group for a workshop.

Before drawing or cutting, establish guidlines on your Stenciling material.

In this lesson, we will cut 3 very simple stencils by hand.

After cutting our 3 practice stencils, we will work with out foam roller and the RED INK on a variety of paper colors.

Once the RED dries, I print the circle in a variety of places using a transparent blue.

To make good use of our text prints, we can now use them to help us discover the possibilities hidden in our graphic explorations.

Making decisions as a visual artist is less often about creating then it is about discovering. The CROPPING TOOL is a discovery tool.

Before printing your pattern repeat you first need to create a jig or a templating system so that you know exactly where the stencil needs to be placed as many times as you want it to.

Here is my first attempt at created a handprinted repeating pattern. I print the RED SQUARE STENCIL

In this quick lesson, I print COLOR #2 !

Sometimes they tear - but they can be fixed! and here is how I do it.
