Cat Fight paintings

The FERAL lies just beneath the surface of the Human Animal. Color and composition delivered by oil paint via the paint brush serves to civilize that violence.  These images are interpretations of cropped screen shots taken from paused YouTube videos. They are unseemly, terrifying and sometimes deadly.  I never watch the scene through to any really violent end.  It’s too real.  It’s the taunting and teasing and intimidation that interests me most. I am most obsessed in capturing that moment when stillness can hold the tension of the IN-tention of what is between the animals.

  • Where are they in that moment ?
  • How charged is that space between them?
  • What is the shape of their action.
  • How does that action create a form beneath, behind and around them?
